mission

Collaborating artists

Established in 2008 by photographer Richard Renaldi, Charles Lane Press showcases important new projects by contemporary photographers. Every Charles Lane Press book is produced in collaboration with at least one additional artist to help shape and sequence each body of work. This creative synergy between collaborating artists is a highly original aspect of every Charles Lane Press book.

The highest quality

Charles Lane Press is broadening the art of the photo book with beautiful design, rich, high-resolution printing, heavy papers, and binding materials of the highest quality. Drawing on the skills of the world’s most knowledgeable printing and design professionals, Charles Lane Press works with master craftspeople, uniquely capable of approaching—and sometimes surpassing—the tonal range and color fidelity of the artists’ original prints.

Original essays

Expanding upon the traditional art publisher’s scope of introductions by curators and academics, Charles Lane Press commissions original essays by novelists, poets, journalists and others whose written word is itself an art. In every book of photographs, there exists a loosely implied and highly subjective narrative, and we seek to couple these stories with the reflections of great storytellers.

Essential objects

Founded on the belief that gorgeously printed books are the ultimate expression of a photographer’s vision, our goal is to make photography books that provide incomparable pride of ownership. At Charles Lane Press we view printed books as essential objects, akin to works of art themselves.
